From Community to Intelligence: Building Eswatini's AI Ecosystem for Strategic Decision-Making
Bandile opened with a question: what does it take to build an AI ecosystem in a country like Eswatini? The answer was that AI capability is not only a technology problem but an ecosystem problem. Someone has to build the systems, someone has to create and understand the data, and someone has to turn AI outputs into decisions.
The talk traced AI Eswatini's model as a pipeline that runs from awareness to learning, community, building, research and impact, with each stage feeding the next. First1000 served as the case study: an AI-powered maternal, child and NCD health platform that uses risk prediction to move care from reactive to predictive. It placed 2nd in the Applied AI poster showcase at IndabaX South Africa 2026. Bandile closed with a maturity path for the next chapter: build, connect, integrate, ensemble, decide.
